Wedding Day Questions

Wedding Gifts

You’ve done the thing. You’ve rearranged your life to travel across the globe to be present with us. We are so grateful for the gift of your presence, and do not ask for anything more. Thank you, again, for joining us for this important event in our lives.

Ceremony and Reception Locations

We intend to have the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner outdoors, but this is Scotland, so we have planned for a rain location indoors as well. Be sure to check the weather and this site for any updates and to plan accordingly!

General Attire

We have added some direction to the itinerary for specific events. Main event outfits are broken into three categories: Wedding Casual, Semi-Formal, and for the wedding ceremony and reception, Formal. These are broadly defined and open for your interpretation (and Googling). Really, Semi-Formal (aka “dressy-casual”) just means your nicest Wedding Casual: it’s above Casual, but not Formal. Collared button-downs and polos are an easy solution for men. For women, think cocktail or semi-formal dress. Make sure you pack things that will work for the activities you’ve chosen. The choices for a carriage ride or golf or fishing will be quite distinct.

Take a peak at that itinerary for specifics. Note that daytime attire will tend to lean more toward Wedding Casual.

Wedding Attire

For Men: Ideally men can wear a suit, but please don’t buy one just for this event. A dress jacket with dress pants and dress shoes will work in place of a suit. Ties are strongly encouraged.

For Women: Dresses or pant suits are great, leaning longer and more elegant over all. Jewel tones, floral prints, fascinators, wraps…something that makes you feel beautiful and classy.

Regarding weather: Plan ahead with layers and options depending on temperature swings. It’s just hard to predict!

Shoes

Surfaces range from antique wood floors, sand, gravel paths, stone, grass, and street.

For Women: Stiletto heels are prohibited always and everywhere. Much of the event is outside, including the wedding if the weather cooperates, so heels in general could be a challenge. Wedges and flats will serve you well. Be sure to plan ahead for outdoor activities you’ve chosen.

For Men: There’s a lot of walking, so be comfortable. Loafers, sandals with a strap, sneakers, etc. Runners/trainers are good for fishing/golf/hikes, etc. but not so much for dinner.

Photos & Video

We will have a photography and videography team with us during key wedding events. You’ll have professionally captured memories to enjoy for years to come. Of course we’ll have thousands of photos that are taken by guests as well, and we will set something up to allow you to upload photos and share them. The only time we’ll ask that you not take photos or video is during the ceremony.
